| A Brief History |

Food For Friends was founded in 1994 as a volunteer-initiated and volunteer-led Christian
organization and remains this way to this very day. A group of friends were inspired by the
Circle K (Kiwanis) collegians at the Harold Washington College in Chicago.
For eight years, Food For Friends operated under and through the Harold Washington College and was instrumental in providing leadership and continuity. In late 2002, Food For Friends established itself as a non-profit organization. This marked a major milestone in the growth of what was born out of the Christian hearts of a few adventurous souls. In November of 2001, Food For Friends along with the Harold Washington College, held a Thanksgiving dinner for the less fortunate in Chicago. Approximately 800 meals were served to approximately 700 homeless individuals. After the dinner all guests wishing to participate recieved a care package along with an opportunity to choose from different clothing items. In November of 2002, Food For Friends and the Harold Washington College teamed up with the kitchen staff of the Palmer House. Once again, approximately 800 meals were served to the homeless. And, as always, clothing and care packages were made available. |
